8. Post-War and Contemporary Sale
The highlight of this sale is Imre Bak’s outstanding piece Painting II. from 1969. Bak first encountered with American Hard-edge and Minimal art works during his 1965 study trip to across Western Europe. These art movements ignore all sorts of material references and instead, they build on the plastic, decorative qualities of colour and form. Returning home Bak created works significant on the international art scene as well inspired by the Hungarian Constructivist tradition, folk art, and the latest Western trends.
The collection of a dedicated collector László Szölke will also be put on sale. The collection covers the second half of the twentieth century, with special emphasis on the Hungarian art scene of the 1980s and 1890s, such as the works of László fe Lugossy and István Zámbó.
